AFA Hosts ITA Summer Circuit Event This Weekend
July 15, 2008
The Air Force Academy will host a 2008 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Summer Circuit event this weekend. Top collegiate men's and women's tennis players will compete on AFA's outdoor tennis courts beginning on Saturday, July 19, with the championship matches slated for Monday, July 21. Austin Francis and Miles Maloy from the Air Force men's eam will participate. The ITA Collegiate Summer Circuit is made up of seven regional circuits (East, Southeast, Midwest, Central, Mountain, Southwest and West) for collegiate players (events are also open to junior players and the general public). The ITA Collegiate Summer Circuit began in 1993 and over 22,000 players have competed in circuit events since its inception. The circuit expanded this year with the addition of the Mountain Region circuit. The University of Denver hosted the other Mountain Region event last weekend. Also this summer, itatennis.com will feature contributing reporters filing daily stories throughout the month from some of the sites. "We are thrilled to host this event," said Air Force women's tennis coach Kim Gidley. "This has been ten years in the making and it is very gratifying to see it come to fruition. There are a lot of great players who have come out of the Intermountain Section and we are excited to offer them an opportunity to compete against other collegiate players from across the country." Each tournament on the circuit includes men's and women's singles and doubles. This weekend's event is free to the public.
