The Air Force wrestling team returns to action this weekend, Nov. 22, when it competes in the annual Kaufman-Brand Open, hosted by Nebraska-Omaha.
About the Kaufman-Brand Open...
The Kaufman-Brand Open, being held at the Lee & Helene Sapp Fieldhouse, is touted as the largest one-day collegiate tournament in the nation. More than 700 wrestlers from approximately 40 teams are expected to compete. The action begins at 9:00 a.m. (CT).
Scouting the Falcons...
The Air Force wrestling team is in its second weekend of competition. Through one tournament, two Falcons--freshman Karl Oeser and sophomore Derek Gillespie--lead the team with three victories each. Meanwhile, 10 other Falcons have won two bouts each in the early season.
Six different Air Force wrestlers recorded falls in the opening weekend of competition, led by junior Stephen Makuka, who registered pins in both of his victories. Meanwhile, sophomore Wade Stowe holds the fastest fall of the season, getting the pin in a time of 0:57.
Last Time Out...
The Falcons opened the season last week at the Cowboy Open, with two wrestlers finishing as placewinners. Freshman Karl Oeser took second place at 184 pounds in the Amateur Division, while senior captain Stephen Crozier finished fourth at 165 pounds in the Elite Division.
Up Next...
The Falcons get a week off before heading to Nevada for the annual Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational, being held Dec. 5-6.
