Falcon Duo Wins First-Round Match at Region Tourney

Junior Brett Rodgers and sophomore Johnny Buckingham advanced to the second round of the Wilson/ITA Mountain Region Men's Tennis Championships in Las Vegas, Nev. The Falcon duo pulled out an exciting 9-8 victory over Kenneth Norling and Daniel Pez of Eastern Washington University. Rodgers and Buckingham will face Andrew Landwerlen and Martin Zimmermann of Denver in the second round on Thursday. In singles, Rodgers and Buckingham, along with junior Austin Francis, each lost his first round match on Wednesday. Rodgers fell to Chris Arena of New Mexico, 6-4, 6-3, while Buckingham lost a 6-1, 6-1 match to Eduardo Salas of New Mexico State. Francis lost his first-round match to Jordan Barlow of Utah State, 6-1, 6-2. Buckingham lost his first consolation round match to Chris Williams of Weber State, while Rodgers and Francis will play in the consolation draw on Thursday.
