Gymnastics With several nationally-ranked programs on the schedule, the Air Force men's gymnastics team embarks on another ambitious campaign, head coach Kip Simons announced with the release of the 2009 schedule. The Falcons will be on the road for much of the season, competing in just two meets at the Academy. [+]Air Force Ranked 12th in Preseason Poll8/15/2008-M. Gymnastics The Air Force men's gymnastics team earned a 12th-place ranking in the first preseason poll, the NCAA recently announced. The Falcons, under the direction of fourth-year head coach Kip Simons, are coming off one of the best seasons in program history. Bolstered by an impressive lineup of returning gymnasts, the Falcons welcome a talented class of newcomers to the program. [+]Falcons Welcome 10 Newcomers to Program8/12/2008-M. Gymnastics The Air Force men's gymnastics team welcomed 10 newcomers to the program for the upcoming 2009 season, head coach Kip Simons recently announced. The Class of 2012, who began Academy classes last week after completing a month of Basic Cadet Training, enters the Falcons' program with valuable club experience at the Junior Olympic level. [+]Jake Schonig to Serve as Fall Wing Commander8/11/2008-M. Gymnastics Air Force senior gymnast Jacob Schonig was selected as the Academy's Wing Commander for the 2008 fall semester. The position, which oversees the daily operations of the cadet wing, is the highest leadership role attainable by a cadet. Schonig is the 20th Air Force athlete to receive the title of wing commander. [+]Brian Boardman Named MWC Scholar-Athlete6/23/2008-M. Gymnastics Brian Boardman was one of 506 student-athletes to be named to the Mountain West Conference Scholar-Athlete, the league announced this afternoon (June 23). Boardman, a native of Naperville, Ill., graduated at the end of May with a 3.58 grade-point-average in mathematics. It is the second consecutive season that Boardman has been honored by the MWC. [+]Greg Stine Named MVP as Falcons Hand Out Team Awards5/2/2008-M. Gymnastics The Air Force men's gymnastics program handed out its 2008 team awards at the annual end-of-season banquet earlier this week (April 30). Senior All-American Greg Stine was the top award-winner, being named the Most Valuable Player. In addition, three other Falcons received recognition from head coach Kip Simons. [+]04/22/2008 - M.
