Falcons Wrap Up Day One at Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - With two rounds in the books, the Air Force golf team is in 15th place at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate, hosted by New Mexico State at the par-71 NMSU Golf Course. Going into the final round, the Falcons sit at 28 strokes-over-par (596). Pacing Air Force on day one is junior Tom Whitney (La Quinta, Calif.), who is tied for fifth place at 140 (-2). After firing a 2-over-par 73 in the opening round, Whitney came back to shoot a 67 in round two and is just two strokes out of first place. Senior Shaun O'Bryant (Colorado Springs, Colo.) is next in the individual standings for the Falcons, tied for 48th at 150, while Andrew Gibson (Sr., San Ramon, Calif.), Air Force's top performer in the opening round, is tied for 67th at 153. Sophomore Kyle Bailey (Austin, Texas) sits two strokes behind Gibson, tying for 77th after two rounds, while freshman Robert Belz (San Antonio, Texas) is in a tie for 84th place at 157. Denver leads in the team standings with a score of 577 (+9). Meanwhile, Colorado's Pat Grady and Idaho's Jarred Bossio are tied atop the individual leaderboard at 138 (-4). The final round of the tournament begins tomorrow with an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start.
