Paulson Named To Hendricks Award Mid-Season Watch List

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force senior defensive end Jake Paulson was one of 33 players named to the Hendricks Award Mid-Season Watch List. The Hendricks Award goes to the top defensive lineman in the country.

Paulson has 8.5 quarterback sacks to rank second in the conference and and 15th nationally with a .85 per-game average. Paulson ranks third in the conference and 20th nationally in tackles for loss with 14.0 for 67 yards, which is a 1.40 per-game average.

Paulson joins three other Mountain West Conference defensive linemen who made the list. Jerry Hughes of TCU, Jan Jorgensen of BYU and Paul Kruger of Utah also cracked the list.

This award is named in honor of University of Miami three-time Collegiate All-American and NFL Hall of Famer Ted Hendricks.

On-field performance, leadership abilities and contributions to school and community are some of the criteria used to determine the award winner. The candidates may represent any class (freshman through senior) as well as any recognized four-year NCAA member school (Division I through Division III).

Leading college coaches, former players and coaches, media members and pro football personnel professionals vote in the selection process.

Previous Hendricks Award winners: Chris Long, University of Virginia (2007), LaMarr Woodley, University of Michigan (2006), Elvis Dumerville, University of Louisville (2005) David Pollack, University of Georgia (2003 and 2004), Terrell Suggs, Arizona State University (2002). All were first round picks in the National Football League draft.
