USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - A doubleheader with Creighton at Rosenblatt Stadium highlights the 2009 Air Force baseball schedule, announced today by head coach Mike Hutcheon. Air Force opens the season Feb. 20 against Navy at the 2009 Service Academies Spring Classic in Millington, Tenn.

The 55-game slate features non-conference road trips to Omaha Neb., Millington, Charleston (twice) and Clinton S.C., Savannah Ga., Cedar City and Orem Utah and Greeley, Colo. Air Force will play Creighton in a doubleheader at Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium, the revered home of the College Baseball World Series, on Wednesday, April 15.

Air Force is slated to play five mid-week home games at Falcon Field at the Academy. Details of where the four home series will be played, will be determined at a later date.

"We are very excited about what is shaping up for us on our schedule in 2009," Hutcheon said.

The Falcons open the season, Feb. 20-22, at the Service Academies Spring Classic, taking on Navy, twice, Kansas and Memphis. Air Force heads south again the following weekend, Feb. 27-March 1 to play four games against Charleston Southern. After a mid-week home game with Colorado Christian on March 3, the Falcons head to Cedar City to play back-to-back doubleheaders with Southern Utah March 6-7.

After a non-conference road game at Northern Colorado, March 10, the Air Force opens MWC play with a three-game set at New Mexico, March 13-15. The Falcons host Colorado Christian on March 17, then head out on the road during spring break week with nine games in 10 days from March 20-29. Air Force plays a three-game set at UNLV March 20-22, then play midweek games, March 24 and 25 at Presbyterian University and Savannah State. The Falcons wrap-up the trip with a four-game set at the Citadel March 26-29.

Sandwiched around mid-week home games on April 1 vs. Colorado School of Mines and April 7 vs. UNC, Air Force plays back-to-back doubleheaders at Utah Valley in Orem April 3-4. The Falcons head right back to Utah just days later for a three-game set at BYU, April 9-11. Air Force then heads to Omaha for the twinbill with Creighton.

"I know our guys are really looking forward in the experience of playing in the site of the College Baseball World Series venue in Rosenblatt Stadium against a very good Creighton team," Hutcheon added. "Also having the opportunities to face other service/military institutions in Navy and the Citadel is always going to be a spirited affair."

The Falcons host four MWC home series beginning in mid-April. Air Force plays three-game sets with TCU, April 17-19, UNLV, April 24-26, Utah, May 1-3, and New Mexico, May 14-16. Air Force also has two more games with Northern Colorado, playing at home on April 21 and in Greeley April 28. The Falcons' final road trip takes the team to San Diego State, May 8-10.

Air Force is coming off an 18-33 season in 2008, an improvement of 10 wins from the year before. The Falcons led the nation with 0.62 triples per game in 2007 with Nathan Carter leading the nation with 10 triples as a freshman.
